2014 CAMOT Conference at Tsinghua University

2016 CAMOT Conference at the University of Cambridge Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the forum will be held through a combination of offline and online presentations. Context: Internationalization & Economic Globalization Confronted with a world that is strikingly different from what it was, COVID-19 has had a profound impact on the world economy, the global governance system, the international political landscape, and global higher education. However, from a historical, dialectical, and systematic perspective, the interdependence of human survival still exists, the basic development elements of maintaining global higher education will not be swayed by the virus. With the outbreak of COVID-19, technology-enhanced learning has been rapidly adopted globally by education institutions which play a key role in the continuity of education and learning. Not only so, but more emerging online innovative universities have also begun to penetrate the global higher education systems which challenge the traditional university model of 800 years old. No doubt, this huge impact caused by the pandemic would ultimately lead to a great revolution in global higher education.

Nowadays, global higher education drives and is driven by economic globalization. Universities and colleges in global higher education develop the highly skilled working force and contribute to the research and development capacity for innovation and entrepreneurship that determine competitiveness and sustainability in the knowledge-based global economy. In the post-COVID-19 era, internalization and global engagement continue to be crucial. Collaboration and competition are intensifying simultaneously under the growing influence of market forces and the emergence of new players. How will global higher education evolve over the next 10 years? How can governments and education institutions take the challenges and make the most of the opportunities?

How did human society develop? Where is the driving force for development? There is no doubt that the ability of social innovation and technological innovation is crucial. Innovation is the driving force for human development. Conceptual innovation, theoretical innovation, technological innovation, and social management innovation are all the driving forces that promote the development of human society. We believe that conceptual innovation and theoretical innovation are primary. Imagine that if there is no conceptual and theoretical innovation in human society, then all other innovations are empty talks, which will undoubtedly stand still.

The main goal of the University President Forum is to explore the new normal and rethinking of the global trends, opportunities and challenges of the universities and colleges in the global higher education sector in the post COVID-19 era, inspire current and strategic thinking, provide a platform for exploring linkages and mechanisms, and explore appropriate and effective modes of delivering sustainability without compromising the mission and vision of the universities.
